Discerning Eye

The devil, our enemy, is an imitator. He’s cunning and crafty. He’s not called an ole’ serpent for nothing. I think about what we call gangsters today — an ole’ g. It’s because they know their craft. They know how to manipulate people. They imitate being good for their own personal gain. Simply put, they are wolves in sheep clothing. And they devour those who fall prey to their schemes.

Be aware! The enemy will come in the name of peace and concern, just like those ole’ g’s. But don’t be deceived, but by prayer and supplication, seek the Lord for insight and foresight because He gives wisdom generously and ungrudgingly to those who ask (James 1:5).

And as you grow in God’s knowledge, you will not fall prey to the enemy’s tricks but instead, have a discerning eye. God will be your shield of protection when your adversaries rise up against you because God will give you the wisdom to discern that which is not righteous and lead you on the path of justice. He will fill your heart with His wisdom, and His knowledge will bring you joy because you will be victorious over your enemy. (Proverbs 2:6-15)

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being a shield of protection. Open my spiritual eyes so that I can see the motives and intent of those that come across my path. Fill me with wisdom, and help me to remain humble in my growth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
