Too often, we judge the outer appearance of a person and miss the intent of their heart. We see the material things they have. Perhaps their credentials or the social circles they run in. We even consider the things they do for us and others, but we miss their motive. (1 Samuel 16:1-13)
So why is it that we can’t seem to get past a person’s physical stature, the clothing they wear, the car they drive, or even the job they hold? All we see is that they look good and sound good.
See, appearances, worldly possessions, or someone’s status doesn’t always paint the right picture. It all comes down to the person’s heart and what’s in it. So, when we fail to take God’s advice about not judging the outer appearance, we miss the mark. (John 7:24)
When we discount God’s way, it allows the enemy an opportunity to overtakes us. When we choose to do things our way, we always get blindsided, and we’re met with disappointment. We miss out on real friendships, relationships, opportunities, or whatever our Heavenly Father has for us because we discerned with our natural eyes and mind rather than our spiritual eyes and senses. (Proverbs 16:2-3)
So, do you continuously find yourself missing the mark when it comes to your opinion of people? Well, consider if you’re looking at things from your perspective or from God’s point of view. (Proverbs 21:2)
Remember, God will never lead you wrong. So, trust His wisdom and His direction in all your relationships, and you will always be successful.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your insight and wisdom. Help me to look beyond the other appearance of others. Thank You for helping me to do things Your way so that I’m successful in all my relationships. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
