Acts Of Love

There’s something special about gathering together with family and friends, building memories. However, sadly, due to the current pandemic this holiday season, many people are sheltering in place and will spend the season alone. This can cause some people to feel discouraged and disconnected. But don’t be dismayed. Trust in the Lord. (Isaiah 41:10)

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. God has given us so many resources to tap into to make not just this holiday season more special but throughout the year more memorable. We only need to seek Him.

We can trust God to lead us and give us ideas on how to stay connected with our loved ones. Remember, it’s all about perspective. We can choose to see the glass as half empty or see it half full. We don’t have to allow the current situation to impact our joy.

See, in times past, people didn’t have cars and didn’t have the means to travel by plane, but they somehow still kept family and friends close at heart and made them feel special. They did a lot with a little. And they were content themselves because they depended on the Lord.

People took the time to reach out by phone and send handwritten letters and personalized cards to loved ones. They even mailed care packages that included things they knew their family and friends needed and would enjoy, and they didn’t break their bank account.

We can do similar things. We have to choose to get back to the basics and use our God-given creativity to build others up. Let others feel our love and not just hear our words because words come a dime a dozen. (1 John 3:18)

It’s truly something about the thought behind the act that touches our hearts. It can be something small that you know your loved ones would appreciate. Maybe send them a copy of an old photo with a short note of the memories the picture brings back. Perhaps drop them off a plate of homemade cookies or other dishes.

Whatever it is, put thought and love into it because it will make all the difference. Showing acts of love can even mend a strained relationship. Ask God how you can show genuine love and then act on it and watch the love grow. (1 Thessalonians 3:12)

Don’t let the enemy stop you from making the most out of the current global pandemic. Instead, trust God and let Him lead the way. Allow Him to be the center of your commitment to show love towards one another. After all, it’s our love that shows others that we are children of Christ. (1 John 4:7)

Prayer: Lord, thank You for guiding and leading me. Show me what I can do to show acts of kindness and love for others. Fill my heart with compassion for others. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
