Counsel Of The Lord

Temptation is always crouching at our door. It desires to rule over us, but God has warned us to subdue it and become its master. We can allow the enemy to lead us into destruction by following his lead or take the path our Heavenly Father has set before us. (Genesis 4:7)

The Lord will always speak to us about whatever it is that’s pulling us in a direction contrary to how He wants us to go. Same as He did with Cain in the beginning. (Genesis 4:6)

God cared enough about Cain’s well-being that He talked with Cain about his feelings and what he was thinking. But Cain missed the whole point. Cain rejected God’s counsel and didn’t let his negative feelings go. He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Cain allowed his emotions to drive him into sinning against God.

Cain gave in to the temptation that was looming at the doorway of his mind and lashed out at his brother, killing him. Cain allowed the enemy to drive him into a rage because of unresolved feelings and the hardness of his heart. Cain allowed his woe is me attitude and that of self-entitlement to further fuel his desire. (Genesis 4:8)

God gave Cain the answer, “do what’s right,” but Cain couldn’t move beyond his feelings. How many times have you heard from the Lord, but you harden your heart because His word wasn’t what you wanted to hear?

The Lord cares about you. He always wants you to choose what’s right and honorable even when no one is looking. You have to free yourself of anything that isn’t of God and stand strong against the schemes of Satan. (Ephesians 6:11)

Listen to the Lord and accept His word. It’s His word that will make you whole and ensure that all is well with your soul. Trust in His wise counsel always, even when it doesn’t feel good. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your friendship and love. Help me to let go of any negative feelings that I’m harboring against anyone else. I accept Your counsel even when I don’t understand or it goes against how I feel. In Jesus’ name, amen.
