How often do we try and mask our true feelings? We put a smile on our face to cover up our true feelings. We are hurt, in pain, upset, or even feeling disappointment because of how others have treated us, or perhaps because of our circumstances.
We hold on to the memories and details of what’s hurt us. We allow the enemy to replay these things over and over in our head like a broken record. Instead of dealing with our negative feelings, we slap a bandage on them and never really deal with the root cause.
We walk around, keeping up appearances. We look and smell good, but there’s a stench of mess on the inside. Yes! It’s the reality of some of our lives. But it doesn’t have to be.
We can give it to Jesus. We can choose to cast our burdens upon our Lord because He cares for us, and He wants to lighten our load. He wants to exchange our turmoil for His peace. But we have to be willing to let it all go. We have to learn to replace the negative thoughts with the truth of our Heavenly Father’s word. And when we do, we receive His peace and joy. (1 Peter 5:7)
Don’t let the enemy steal another minute of your peace. Shut him out of your thought life. Then fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise to the glory of God so that you receive His gift of peace. (Philippians 4:8-9)
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your gift of peace. Show me how to cast all of my cares upon You so that I can be set free of my hurt. Heal me in every area of my life that’s broken so that I can take off the bandages and stop keeping up appearances. In Jesus’ name, amen.
