Waiting can be hard to do, especially since many of us have become accustomed to getting things quickly. We can order something online today and have it delivered, in some cases, the same day, and other times the very next day or within a few days. The expectation is that there is no real waiting period.
On the contrary, when we seek the Lord for something, we have to wait until He knows the time is right. Our Heavenly Father knows best when we’re ready to receive whatever it is we are expecting. We can find solace in knowing that His timing is always perfect.
If we take a look at king David’s life, we can learn a valuable lesson — the art of waiting. He was able to wait and endure through hardships because he understood the goodness of the Lord. David knew that the Lord’s plan and timing were far better than anything he could plan for himself. (1 Samuel 16:1-13)
Though David faced ridicule, challenges, and delays, he held on to God’s promises. And even though he encountered long waiting periods and things didn’t seem to make sense, David trusted the Lord. He knew that if he waited patiently that the Lord’s blessings would enrich him and his life (Proverbs 10:22).
If you’re struggling because your patience has stretched thin, rest in the Lord and know that He will give you what you need when you need it most.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your perfect timing. Remind me of those times when I was waiting, and You always showed up at the right time. Then help me to wait patiently on You with great expectation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
