Liberty In Christ

When others hurt us, it can be tough to overcome the pain and to forgive them. Sure. It’s hard but not impossible. Therefore, if we genuinely want to walk in forgiveness, we have to choose to let go and release any feelings of resentment and surrender our desire to retaliate.

Let’s take a pause here and look at the other side of the coin. If we’re honest with ourselves, we too have hurt others and hurt our Heavenly Father for things we’ve done wrong.

Consequently, we have to view things from the right perspective and realize that we all fall short. For that reason, we must understand that sin is sin in the eyes of God, so we can’t think that other people’s sin is worse than ours. (Romans 3:23)

Therefore, when others transgress against us, we can take a lesson from Jesus and extend a measure of grace to them and offer forgiveness to others when they offend us, the same as He does for us. (Matthew 6:12

But understanding that forgiveness is not condoning or giving others a pass to hurt us again. But instead, it provides us with the freedom to walk in love and to move forward and live in genuine fellowship with Christ (Colossians 3:12-14).

There’s no need to let the enemy hold you captive in your heart and mind. If you’re holding on to hurt and pain and struggling to forgive someone, surrender your feelings to Jesus. Ask the Lord to help you to heal and let go. He wants to take your burdens to lighten your load. There’s liberty in Christ. Let Him be your burden bearer. (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your gracious forgiveness. Help me forgive others that have hurt me so that I’m free from the weights holding me back. In Jesus’ name, amen.
