Surrendering it all to the Lord can be a scary thought. Just saying it out loud, “Surrender it all,” sounds so frightening and seems even harder to do. Considering, many of us often try to control everything in our lives, our household, career, finances, education, and everything in between.
Moreover, if we’re honest, we sometimes even try to control the actions, reactions, and attitudes of other people. We want them to respond and react to a situation in the same way we would if the tables were turned. But let’s be real with ourselves, it’s hard enough keeping our own actions, reactions, and attitudes in check in such a way that we reflect Jesus in everything we do. (2 Peter 1:3-8)
Therefore, we have to ask ourselves, how can we expect others always to get things right as we perceive it? We have to let go of the if I were you, and I would have responded this way or that way. We have to measure ourselves and others through the lens of love and compassion, then forgiving others and ourselves when we don’t quite get it right. Love covers all offenses (Proverbs 10:12).
We all have some growing to do. But remember, not everyone wants to grow nor change. We can only control our own conduct. So how do we overcome the urge to control everything? The answer is by surrendering it all to the One that has all the answers. Jesus wants to help us in every area of our life. He wants us to be all in, withholding nothing. He wants us to have an abundant life in Him. But we have to be willing to surrender it all to Him. (Colossians 3:17)
Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me Your spirit so that I can grow to be more Christ-like in everything I do. Help me to surrender every area of my life to You so that I’m victorious in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
