There’s a long list of things that can trigger fear — financial uncertainty, a lost child, a health crisis, loss of a job, significant life changes, and much more. But we don’t have to let the uncertainties of life throw us off track and trigger fear within.
Joshua was in the midst of a big transition. Joshua took over for Moses and inherited some major responsibilities. Joshua wasn’t only the new leader of the people of Israel, but he was tasked with what seemed like an impossible task. He was commissioned to take possession of a land of giants. His enemies were strong and intimidating. But like Joshua, we can chose to trust God at His word and exchange fear for God’s promise of victory.
God can calm our fears if we allow Him to step into our present circumstances and anchor ourselves in His capabilities and love. Remember, we have to be strong and courageous and not be afraid or discouraged, for He is God, and He is with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9).
Trust God and His word. Choose to keep your focus on our Heavenly Father rather than the giants in your life. You can be strengthened in faith knowing that He will lead and protect you, and fulfill every promise. Lay down your fear and pick up His promises. Remember, God is a promise keeper. (Romans 4:19-24)
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being a promise keeper — a God of Your word. I trust you to lead, guide, and protect me. I trust You with my life in all things. Help me to lay down fear and to pick up all Your wonderful promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
