So often, we live busy lives, always on the go. And we find ourselves focusing only on the obvious. But in that, we can miss the holy whispers of God.
Sure. God can speak to us through rare supernatural means as we see in bible history — a burning bush, a talking donkey, a thunderous voice. But more often, it’s in a much more subtle and softer voice.
An example is in the testimony of an old testament prophet, Elijah. He was hiding out in a cave, and he was tired, on the run for his life, fed-up, and ready to quit. While in the cave, the Lord told Elijah to step into His presence. While in God’s presence, Elijah witnessed all sorts of natural disasters. And then, he hears from God, the sound of a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:9-19)
See. Things can be crashing down around us. We are facing challenges that could have us fighting for our life — health crisis, financial hardships, marital problems, job challenges, death of a loved one, community challenges. And we are tired and ready to throw in the towel. It’s then that we have to slow down and, when necessary, take a time out for ourselves so that we can reconnect to our real Source and hear from our Heavenly Father.
God is closer than you realize. You can hear from Him because, as a believer, His Holy Spirit indwells you. God certainly wants to give you wisdom and help you with whatever you are facing today. Quiet yourself. Lean into Him. And hear His holy whispers.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your Holy Spirit. Teach me Your ways and Your voice. Help me to quiet myself so that I can hear Your holy whispers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
