Words can have a lasting impact over our life. The things spoken to us or about us can damage us or lift us up. Words can influence who we are and how we lead our lives.
Unpleasant words spoken like, you’re not good enough or smart enough. You don’t have the “right” background or you’re not from the “right” racial, ethnic or socioeconomic class. You don’t have what it takes. Maybe you’ve heard that you will never amount up to anything.
See when we’ve heard these types of words spoken into our life once or in some cases multiple times, these hurtful words can stick with us for a while, and in some cases a lifetime. They can make us doubt our abilities, self-worth, and create a self-loathing attitude towards ourselves.
Jesus wants to bind up our wounds. He wants to heal our spirit and mend our broken heart. God tells us in His word to pay attention to what I say, listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body (Proverbs 4:20-22). Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in the Word so that you learn of what God has to say about who you are in Him. He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13).
In God’s eyes you are loved, secure, safe and significant. Let Jesus’ voice speak above the other voices in your life. Choose to believe what He has to say about you because His word is more powerful and effective than any words ever spoken against you.
Prayer: Lord help me to let go of all ill words spoken to me or about me. Put a watch over my mouth so that I don’t do the same thing to others. Forgive me for any hurtful words I have spoken to anyone, heal them and help them to forgive me. Lord help me to forgive those that have spoken hurtful things to me. Help me to see myself from Your perspective. Heal my heart, spirit and thought life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
